The descent

This photo was captured on my descent from the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, standing at almost 6000 meters. It was by far the most physical and emotionally challenging hike I have ever done. At this stage I had been hiking all through the night and just wanted to get down to the bottom to nap. You can see that we are above the cloud line. As I had hiked up in the dark, it was only when this photo was taken - on the way back down, that I could see the terrain I had come up. I will be forever grateful to the sweet Swahili men who sang to me their native songs to get me up to the summit.
