From iPhone to research: contributing to science through a smartphone

Frogs are important bio-indicators, signaling environmental health. When you spot a sick frog, it indicates that something's amiss. I was fortunate to have my iPhone with me to capture this sick Green Tree Frog while birdwatching at a nature reserve in Sydney. I submitted the photo to the Australian Museum FrogID team, who are collecting observations of sick and deceased frogs nationwide. While witnessing such things is concerning, we can contribute valuable scientific knowledge while enjoying the outdoors, simply by taking photos or recordings with our smartphones and participating in citizen science.
