The Grose Valley’s Sinking Smoke

During a trip to Mt Hay in the Blue Mountains during May, a back burn was underway in the nearby Woodford, casting thick clouds of smoke over the area. As we were walking along the Butterbox Point track, we stopped in awe as we noticed the smoke being siphoned down into the Grose Valley. With the distinctive camel hump shape of Mt Banks to right and the setting sun casting suitably fiery orange light to the left, we found ourselves staring at this strange phenomenon none of us had seen before, and very likely will never see again!
