Life After Lockdown

Mt Feathertop, June 12, 2022.I married my wife Tazi in February 2020, the next month we were in lockdown. By October we had twins and a parenting lockdown within a lockdown. Living in a 2-bedroom apartment the boundaries of my world had drawn unimaginably close. And though our boys provided untold richness, the itch to once again experience landscape was building. By June 2022 the itch was a fever, and my first chance to escape the city with friends coincided with extraordinary early season snowfall. Over three days myself and three friends snow-shoed the spurs of Mt Feathertop (up Bungalow and down the North West) on Gunaikurnai/Taungurung country. With a 1980s rangefinder I shot a few rolls of black and white film to make a record without digital distractions. This frame shows the moment we summited. Lockdown was over and I could at last mentally re-peg the boundary of my world.
